Pop-up choir sing the songs of Paul Simon

POP-UP CHOIR CONCERT CELEBRATES THE SONGS OF PAUL SIMON As if by magic, a Suffolk choirmaster has created a choir from scratch in just six rehearsals to celebrate the songwriting career of Paul Simon. Chris Rowbury has taken a group of 50 random singers from Ipswich and knocked them into shape by teaching songs in four-part harmony. All the songs have been arranged especially for voice only (not an instrument or backing track in sight) and range in style from gospel to folk, South African to Puerto Rican, rock and roll to musical theatre. The group have been working hard to polish songs from the early days of Simon and Garfunkel right across Paul Simon’s extensive solo career. They will perform them at St. Peter’s by the Waterfront, College Street, IP1 1XF Ipswich on Saturday 30 November. Joining the pop-up choir for the final performance will be Calling Birds. The group was set up in 2018 to support local charities with fundraising events. Featuring a blend of guitar, violin, bass guitar, ukulele, flute, melodeon and harmony singing, Calling Birds will bring a unique flavour to their set of Paul Simon songs. If you loved Simon and Garfunkel, or Paul Simon’s collaboration with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, or his gospel and latin-influenced songs, there will definitely be something here to delight you. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8 (£3 under 16s). Buy on-line at chrisrowbury.com or by phoning Chris on 01394 610 486. Some tickets will be available on the door.
