Suffolk's 'Most Active Small Village 2015' has added a boules piste to the facilities available for the villagers.

The facility was officially opened on Sunday 24th July by the Parish Council chairman Mr Denis Pye and Suffolk Sport's Ben Jackson. The facility was financed by monies received from winning Mid Suffolk Village of the Year 2014, 2nd place in SCC Village of the Year 2014, 'Open Spaces Award 2014' and local sources. The residents of Mendham and Withersdale were consulted to find out what they would like the money to be spent on and a 'Boules Piste' came out top choice.

The villages celebrated the opening with an Intervillage Boules competition. 4th placed were Starston's 'Glamorous Ladies' and 3rd place went to Starston's 'Old Gits'. 2nd placed Mendham's 'The Honeylanes' were narrowly beaten in the final by Bungay's 'Auspoms' who took the trophy for 1st place. The boules ran alongside the annual Intervillage Rounders competition, which saw Mendham & Withersdale, Starston, Weybread and FOMSA (Friends of Mendham School) competing during the afternoon. The final was between Starston and Mendham and Withersdale, who retain the cup again this year.

A spokesmen for the Mendham and Withersdale Community Council who ran the event, said

"The Parish enjoyed a lovely day on Sunday. Thank you to everyone who helped at the event. Mendham is extremely proud to add a boules piste to all the other facilities we have on offer in our villages. This is a great facility for people of all ages to use."
