Silverstripe Upgrade Update

As you hopefully know, Community Action Suffolk will be upgrading the version of Silverstripe that all One Suffolk websites use (currently version 2.4) and we will also be updating all the designs of the One Suffolk websites so that they are more modern looking and mobile friendly.

The version will be updated to at least version 3.6.

Progress is being made with the upgrade and much of the core architecture is in place and we are currently testing the process of migrating all the websites to a new system. This element is one of the most complex in the process of upgrading, so we are investing a lot of time now to ensure you have to do as little as possible, or nothing, after the upgrade.

This whole task is hugely complex and one that can't be underestimated or rushed so it has taken a little longer than expected but progress is being made and once we are content that we have a working migration process and that the other elements of this process are in place then we will email everybody to give firm details of when this upgrade will happen and what you can expect to see after the upgrade.

We had hoped this would be in place by our 1 year anniversary of taking over the service on November 1st but this is now looking unlikely and we are now more hopeful that the upgrade will be completed by the end of 2017. What is most important for us, and ultimately for all users, is that the process gets done smoothly and correctly and if that means spending a little more time on elements of it then we are prepared to do this.

Since taking over the service last November we comitted to a number of things

1. Smoothly arranging the transfer of the service from Suffolk County Council

2. Repairing a fault with the ordering of files on the software (completed 29th November 2016)

3. Providing physical training where required (we offer 2 hour 1:1 or 1:2 sessions for £40+VAT)

4. Upgrading the silverstripe software.

We are proud to say we have kept to our promise on the first 3 items and the 4th will be completed in the coming months.

Having seen some of the new mobile friendly themes that we have designed, I am really excited about the upgrade and i'm sure that when it's all complete, you will be too.
