One Suffolk Upgrade - Demo Website Released

We are delighted to be able to share with you, our first demo One Suffolk website, which is based on the upgraded One Suffolk platform that we are currently working on completing.

Please go to http://osdemo.onesuffolk.net where you can see an early demo of how we broadly see the new One Suffolk websites looking. Don't be surprised that over the coming weeks this design will be tweaked and changed - we will be constantly improving this over the coming weeks and also working on different layouts to meet different needs.

It is worth pointing out that this demo uses latin dummy text and placeholder images so content wise this is purely for illustrative purposes only. The demo's purpose is to show broadly how the sites will look, some of the functionality and to show that they are running on the Silverstripe 3.6 platform.

The design looks a bit of a departure from the existing site templates, however they are more flexible and can be customised to how you want it to look more than the current layouts. For example the demo shows no left hand or right hand bar on many of the pages - this is something that can be added to any page of your choosing (not just to the whole site as it is currently). Likewise, if you have a logo and background top image, these can be added to your layout.

We can also show you 2 images of the back end admin area so that you can see how different it looks compared to the current version you are all using. The 2 file links below show a standard page and also an event page. Please click on them to view the screenshots.

The upgrade is a very important milestone for us and we are still on target to have this ready by the end of 2017. As it is likely it will be mid-late December before this is ready we will likely push the final migration of sites into early January as i'm sure all of us have more important things to do in mid-late December with Christmas on the horizon! This will also give us proper time to roll out the free refresher training sessions that we will be putting on alongside the migration.

We are very excited about the migration as it will give you, the user, a number of new features and improvements. Some of these are listed below but more may be coming later.

  • Mobile Friendly
  • Modern and Improved Themes
  • Ability to upload multiple files at once
  • Improved backend usability
  • More control over site appearance
  • Added functionality including (Instagram feed, Youtube Video, Mailchimp Integration)
  • Easier adding and editing of images
  • Speed and Security Improvements
  • SSL Certificates to encrypt data on your website (on request and potentially chargeable on annual basis - TBC)

More detailed information on the scheduled upgrade, timescales and information on the training in December. We also hope to share with you our bold new design for our main One Suffolk website, which we plan to really show off your sites in a much more innovative and fun way.
