The onesuffolk websites

What do I get?

When you sign up to receive the onesuffolk service you’ll be provided with a basic website and an associated onesuffolk.net URL.

Once you've signed up for your site it will be created automatically and once approved will be on-line quickly containing the information you've supplied. You will decide on the colour and the masthead for your site (which you can change if you get bored or when we produce new site designs). You'll be able to change your strapline (the sentence under your site name). More importantly you'll be able to pick from a gallery of page designs with different layouts, including:

  • Photo gallery
  • Blog
  • News
  • Classified ads (maybe a charge for this facility
  • RSS reader – able to read news feeds straight onto your webpage from sources like the BBC or daily newspapers…
  • Contact or feedback forms that you can create yourself

You'll also be able to get creative by adding small boxes called widgets to various parts of your pages. Widgets include:

  • RSS reader
  • Blog
  • News
  • Events
  • Map
  • Classifieds
  • Polls (simple surveys saying things like what do you think of the Post Office opening hours? With buttons for too long, too short and don't really care)

What this means is that you could create a website with homepage, news, classifieds and events pages. Then on the homepage you could have a latest news box in the right hand column showing the last three news stories entered on your news page. And you could have boxes at the top of the page showing the most recent events and classifieds you've entered on other pages. And you could have a box in the left hand column with a map showing the location of your local church/village hall, or even events. Other features include:

  • a search of your site using Google Search
  • 'proper' web addresses (for example your news page could be called www.grundisburgh.suffolk.gov.uk/news without any reference to onesuffolk)
  • Google analytics providing visitor tracking on your site

With our CMS you'll be able to add your own events and news for your site. But the information you enter on your site can also be combined with other sites in your area to create local portals on the onesuffolk site – for example onesuffolk could host a new page for the Woodbridge area showing all news entered by parishes and community groups in the surrounding area. The same applies for events and classifieds.

You'll be able to edit pages in the CMS using any PC with an internet connection.

Webmasters will be able to add other users to their site and give them permission to edit certain pages. And webmasters can create private areas accessible only to known users who to log in to their site.
